It's Kind of a Funny Story by Ned Vizzini

This month, I will be reviewing It's Kind of a Funny Story by Ned Vizzini. This book is about a boy named Craig who has had depression and has barely eaten for the past few years. Craig plans to commit suicide, but then he calls the suicide hotline and they convince him to go to the hospital. Craig, when asked if he wants to "check in" unknowingly checks himself into an adult psychiatric hospital.

This book is so good. The writing is perfect, the characters are perfect, and the cover is perfect. Everything about this book is just perfect. Ned Vizzini wrote this book so great. Ned himself spent a few days in a psychiatric hospital. He recently committed suicide because he was depressed. He was only 32 and had so much to live for. Rest in peace Ned Vizzini. t love this book because it is a great story and it could actually happen to people. You can't be mean to people, even if you're joking, because they might have the same problem as Craig and you won't know it. This book actually inspired me to want to study psychology to learn how people react to certain situations and what makes them do what they do. This book kind of makes me think of Teen Wolf because Craig and Noelle met in a psychiatric hospital and so did Stiles and Malia. I love that Craig has Nia to talk to about being in the psychiatric hospital because they both have depression, but Craig has it way worse. I loved this book so much and it is such great story.

Divergent by Veronica Roth

This month, I will be reviewing Divergent by Veronica Roth. Divergent is a great story about a girl named Beatrice (Tris) Prior living in a dystopian Chicago. The society is separated into five factions: Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). Once a year, all sixteen-year-olds select which faction they want to spend the rest of their lives in. The Divergent trilogy is well written and each book has a new twist, which is what makes the book so amazing. This book is one of my favorite books because it is dystopian and has action and romance. I feel like Tris is such a strong character because she can't fit into one category and she doesn't accept help from many people because she is independent, which is why she is one of my favorite characters. Th1rteen R3asons Why by Jay Asher

This month, I will be reviewing Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher. In this book, Clay Jensen finds a shoebox containing 7 cassette tapes, each with a story on both sides except for the seventh tape. In the tapes, Hannah Baker explains to 12 people (no that was not a typo I really did mean 12) why she decided to commit suicide. These tapes take Clay, and the reader, on an emotional roller coaster through 13 different stories that all answer the same question; Why did Hannah Baker kill herself? First off, let me start by saying if you don't think you'll like it because it sounds depressing, at least give it a try because it was an amazing book. People always judge books before they even try to read them. Anyway, onto my review. I really enjoyed this book and could not put it down. Wonder by R.J. Palacio

This month, I will be reviewing Wonder by R.J. Palacio. Wonder is about a boy with facial d eformities named August. He has always been homeschooled and is finally going to an actual school. The story follows August's struggle as he attends school and tries to fit in. It's hard to fit in when you're a new student, bit it's even harder to fit in when don't look like everybody else. Wonder is one of my favorite books because it's so inspirational. Most YA books nowadays are all about a young female struggling with something (Tris struggling to hide her Divergence, Katniss struggling to survive, and Hazel struggling with cancer). Wonder is so different because it's not dystopian & the (main) narrator is a male. I think that R.J. Palacio wrote this book with many narrators and the main character being a male because she wanted to show that Wonder is different from other books, just like August is different from everybody else.
